Eternal outsider Ayla left the faith community that raised her as a caravan of roving trailers. She returns as the wife of the leader’s beloved son. She finds it’s become an international megachurch where everyone’s bags are designer and sin doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Ayla moves to the faith’s exclusive island community with her husband and infant daughter. But just as she settles into the happily ever after part of her Cinderella story, two corpses crash their lavish homecoming party. Told never to question God’s plan, the community moves on easily from the horrific discovery, but Ayla’s anxiety spirals.
To bring her back to the faith’s central tenet of acceptance, Ayla agrees to therapy and drug treatments managed by the church. As the treatments blur the lines of her reality, a face she cannot place, a husband she no longer recognizes, and cryptic notes from her late mother push her toward a dangerous suspicion. Her church has a secret, and it’s been killing its own followers to keep it.
Ayla can trust her instincts and risk her family, security, and faith, or she can shut her eyes, keep silent, and enjoy her life of privilege.
