A Reminder That I Am Not Trying to Sell You Something, and I Work for You

I talked a little bit about this in my article This is Why Shopping for A Home is Easier and Harder Than Ever, but I really want to talk about the value of a good realtor. Don’t stop reading! I know you’ve heard the “5 reasons why”, heck you might’ve read it here on my blog. Clickbait titles work because we all want easy answers. But this is personal, so please bear with me.

When you meet someone and get to know them, eventually they ask, “so what do you do?” Upon hearing that I am in fact, in business as a Real Estate Agent, people have actually responded, “Oh that’s why you’re being so friendly, you’re trying to sell me something.” First of all, owch. Really! Second of all, absolutely NOT! I am not trying to sell anyone, anything. Seriously. I am not trying to convince you to buy a house or sell your current home. I am not trying to insidiously build a friendship with you in hopes that someday I will get a pay out and then never see you again. That would be exhausting, and it sounds kind of evil.

When I tell you I’m a Realtor, first of all, you asked, or hey, it’s my daily life! Most people have work on their mind. It’s what I do for most of every day and I like to talk real estate! Second, yes, it’s true, you caught me I have to find clients to make a living. But that does not mean convincing everyone I meet to buy or sell a house! It does mean letting people know that if they are thinking of buying or selling, I’m an expert they can talk to, get advice from, and eventually, work with on your real estate transaction. It also sometimes means actively seeking out people who are looking to buy or sell property, but not manufacturing them!

A lot goes into Buying or Selling a house. A lot of time, a lot of money, a lot of contracts, amendments, sweat, blood, and tears. It’s financial, it’s legal, it’s emotional. If you are planning on buying or selling a house, please hire a Realtor. A home sale is a huge transaction, with countless potential pitfalls. A Realtor’s job is to protect the interest of our clients and our education, experience, and personal ethics are how we are able to do that. Again, if I didn’t believe I was providing value and helping people, I would absolutely not be a Realtor.

If you come to a point in your life where you are ready to buy or sell a home, I hope you’ll think of me. Shoot me a text, give me a call, we can get coffee and talk frankly about the pros and cons. Maybe the time isn’t right, or you feel more comfortable working with someone else. Maybe you’re ready to buy or sell and want me to be the one to help you do that. If that is the case, you will have me in your corner as your advocate and agent for every step of the home buying or selling process.

Even this blog, yes it is in part a shameless exercise in advertising. It helps me boost my SEO and reminds people I’m a Realtor. But you know, I also love writing it. It keeps me motivated to explore different aspects of Colorado life and real estate. Ultimately, it makes me a better Realtor. I don’t have 20 years of experience, but I will. I don’t know everything about Real Estate, but I haven’t met a question I haven’t been able to find the answer to yet. I love what I do because my skill set can help people with some of the biggest personal financial transactions people ever undertake. But even if you want to live in your van forever, I’m still interested in you and your story. I am certainly not just “trying to sell you something”.
